What would happen if every blog published posts on the same topic, on the same day? One issue. One day. Thousands of voices.

Google’s Blogs Join Blog Action Day

Today while going through the increasingly long queues of blogs who have committed to participating on Blog Action Day I came to a series of blogs bearing a name that you and I and just about everyone with a computer is familiar with. Today over a dozen of Google’s blogs including the mighty Official Google Blog and the hugely popular YouTube Blog joined Blog Action Day. With them they bring a combined RSS readership of well over a million internet users further swelling the ranks of this initiative.

And if you thought Google was the only company who’d be writing for the environment this Monday, then you may want to think again. From blog networks, to media blogs to even the blogs of American banking corporation Wells Fargo, it seems that ordinary bloggers like you and I are shoulder to shoulder with companies who believe in creating a better world. And call me an optimist or an idealist or anything in between, but I think that’s pretty cool.

In almost at the last minute, but way to go Google!! With all that the company is doing to help the environmental movement (solar panels on the roof, employee credits for eco-friendly cars) I’m really surprised that they didn’t get in earlier. But hey, better late than never!

Collis, I’ve been following the progress from day 1. Great job!! Every time I see more and more larger named companies join (and now Google!!), I can’t but ask myself “did he ever think this would have such an impact!!?”

Great job, I hope things go well on Blog Action Day!

@Michael: I must admit I never dared think it would do so much. I kind of thought that maybe by the like 5th year we’d run it we’d have lots of momentum, but not all in the first year! :-)

That’s very nicem that commercial organizations are willing to talk and write about environmental issues. It would be nicer, if they really considered environmental factors in their business decision making. Words don’t cost money, so they are easy to spare.

Hi Collis, you people have done a great job of organising this event and building the buzz around it. Excellent work.

Even if you didn’t expect this reception to the event, I think it is a natural response to a great idea, a worthy topic, and a sincere group of people running the show.

I wish you the best of luck with the big day tomorrow, and hope to see this grow from strength to strength in the coming years. Whether you wanted it or not, you’ve just given birth to a 50 ton bouncing baby monster. Enjoy the parental glow. ;)

We’ve lost our hope that any goverement could ever be interested on doing something to proctect Greece’s environement, so I want to hope that this day will be also a new era for Greece’s politicians decisions…
